What To See And Do Around Lake Brunner

lake brunner township from the air There are plenty of attractions around the area to see so while you have a day off fishing or maybe the family would like to take in some of the regions spectacular attractions. Below are some suggestions or you can also look up the Tourism West Coast website

  • A drive up the coast road to Punakaki taking in the famous Pancake rocks and coastal scenery. Take a look at the much sought after glasswork of renown glass blower Ross Smith at Seal Island Studios. Travel up to the town of Westport and return via the Buller Gorge and the Grey River valley. This a trip well worth the time and you should allow a full day.
  • Greymouth, the regions capital is 30 minutes drive away with shops, cafes, Jade carvers and Art Gallery all offering their wares. See Jeremy Dalzell carving brilliant jade in his studeo and browse at the many pieces on offer.
  • A trip to Shanty Town is a must and it is real easy to fill in a few hours at this historic town panning for gold or tripping back to the early gold mining days of the 1800's.punakaki rocks - one of natures spectacular creations
    Drive on to Kumara and visit Carey Dillion's wood carving studio and see his amazing works of art.

  • You can drive back to Moana via the southern end of Lake brunner winding your way through sub tropical rain forests full of beautiful native trees, native ferns and birds.

  • Moana also has some good bush walking tracks some taking only 20 minutes while others take a full day. They wind there way through some outstanding stands of native trees with an abundance of native birds to keep you company.
  • Another day trip would be to Hokitika visiting the Hoki Gorge or enjoying the plentiful tourist shops, cafes etc at Hokitika.
